Musquash Fire - Rescue (MFD) is a former Local Service District volunteer Fire Department, but was recently transitioned to Fundy Shores in January, 2024. There are currently approximately 50 volunteer members, including some founding members and a Fire Chief of 30+ years. Our budget is managed by the Fire Chief and overseen by the Mayor and Council of Fundy Shores. Musquash Fire - Rescue has been serving the communities of Chance Harbour, Dipper Harbour, Lepreau, Little Lepreau, Maces Bay, Musquash, and Prince of Wales since January 1, 1987 providing fire suppression, salt & fresh water rescue, remote off-road rescue services and other assistance in times of crisis. Musquash Fire Rescue responds primarily to fire related incidents and motor vehicle accidents, but does, on request provide medical assistance to the local ambulance service, Ambulance New Brunswick. In case of an emergency at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station, Musquash Fire - Rescue is the first off-site fire department to respond.
The department started with two fire trucks (originally lime green in colour) and two fire stations. Currently the department's apparatus roster consists of four pumpers, one rescue unit, two all-terrain vehicles, three zodiac rescue boats, a Sports Utility Vehicle, two four wheel drive pick up trucks and other specialized equipment housed in two fire stations. The vehicles serve as essential tools for rapid response and are maintained meticulously to ensure reliability.
